A living lineage

Born from Larn and Ultra-Larn.

Larn began in 1986 with Noah Morgan — a Unix roguelike about racing the clock to cure your daughter. Ports by Don Kneller, Kevin Routley, and others carried it across machines.

Ultra-Larn, better known as Ularn, was created by Phil Cordier (copyright 1987; first posted widely in 1989). It added true character classes, deeper dungeons and volcano levels, and new artifacts. Later maintainers including David Richerby, Josh Brandt, and Josh Bressers kept the tradition alive.

Ularn 3D presents that Ularn through an overhead world, built on Jason Primeau’s JavaScript Larn / Ularn engine. Read the full history and creators.
